In 2002, the "Jiaolong" was listed as a major special project of the national "863" plan, which was organized and implemented by the State Oceanic Administration. More than 100 scientific research institutions across the country participated in joint research, independent design, and integrated innovation. In June 2012, the "Jiaolong" successfully completed the "Jiaolong" 7000-meter dive, with a maximum dive depth of 7062 meters, creating an international record for similar manned submersible, it indicates that China has the ability to carry out research and exploration of deep-sea resources in more than 99.8 per cent of the world's sea areas, has achieved a major breakthrough in China's deep-sea technology, and indicates that China's manned deep-diving technology has ranked among the advanced in the world.
As a research and test unit of the 7000-meter manned submersible, the company, as a third party, has carried out the whole process supervision of the development of the submersible body and the 1000-meter, 3000-meter, 5000-meter and 7000-meter sea tests. It has strictly controlled the quality and progress of the development of the "Jiaolong" manned submersible body and the sea tests, and carried out the test site diving equipment inspection, test data witness and on-site acceptance work, for the successful completion of the project has made due contributions.
